Japanese Veterinary Antimicrobial Resistance Monitoring System (JVARM)

Monitoring of antimicrobial resistance on 11 agents was carried out between 2011 and 2016. While resistance to ampicillin (ABPC) and tetracycline (TC) was observed in more than 40% of strains in 2016, resistance rates to cefotaxime (CTX), ciprofloxacin (CPFX), and colistin (CL)—critically important antimicrobials for human medicine—were below 5%. It must be noted that the BPs of cefazolin (CEZ), CPFX, and CL were lowered between 2015 and 2016 to bring them into line with the values established by CLSI.
